Empire, War and the England Cricket Tour to South Africa 2015

Cape Town – Author, lecturer and historian, Dr. Dean Allen, who recently launched his book, Empire, War and Cricket in South Africa has teamed up with Cape Town Cricket Club and Designer Tours to promote a cricket supporters’ tour to South Africa later this year.

The England cricket team will play four Test matches, five One Day Internationals and two T20 internationals between 23 December 2015 and 21 February 2016 starting with the Boxing Day Test match in Durban in December 2015.

The book, Empire, War and Cricket in South Africa(Zebra Press) was recently launched in South Africa to wide acclaim and will be launched in the UK shortly. Dr Allen’s fascinating book explores how cricket was introduced to Southern Africa and features the incredible story of James Logan, a Scotsman, who made his fortune in nineteenth century South Africa through business, politics and a high profile association with the British Empire’s favourite sport – cricket.

Dr. Allen has partnered with Cape Town Cricket Club, which was established in 1857 and is the second oldest club in South Africa, and local bespoke tour operator, Designer Tours, to offer package deals to supporters to follow the England cricket team. Designer Tours, a tour operator with over 22 years of experience, has managed to secure 3* and 5* hotel accommodation in Cape Town as well as accommodation in 5* game parks, namely Kuzuko Lodge in the Eastern Cape and Nkomazi in Mpumalanga. 

The packages include Test match viewing at its very best in one of four 30-seater suites in the prestigious North Stand at the beautiful Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.The packages include B&B accommodation, all local transfers, a welcome cocktail party and a cushioned seat for all 5 days of the Test match. Lunch and a complimentary bar will be provided during the match. 

To add to the experience, each delegate on the tour will receive an exclusive signed copy of the book, Empire, War and Cricket in South Africa and Dr. Allen will be the key-note speaker at the welcome cocktail party at the beginning of the tour. Dr. Allen will be the special guest in the suites throughout the Newlands and Wanderers Test matches.
