England Cricket Tour of South Africa with Cape Town Cricket Club

Cape Town – Local premier league cricket club and the second oldest club in South Africa, Cape Town Cricket Club, is offering various tour packages for supporters of the England Cricket Tour to South Africa at the end of 2015.

Some of the packages include the 2nd and/or 3rd Test matches at Newlands Cricket Ground and the Wanderers Stadium respectively; safari’s and free time to explore Cape Town.

Chairman of the Cape Town Cricket Club, Mr. Steve Borwick, says the club which is based in Plumstead, Cape Town frequently hosts visiting teams from the United Kingdom and was a host club for the recent World Golden Oldies Tournament. Our offering to clubs and anyone who follows English cricket the opportunity to come to our beautiful country was a logical step.

The club has partnered with local bespoke tour operator, Designer Tours, and Newlands hospitality suite management company, Suite Success,to offer the package deals. Through Designer Tours, a tour operator with over 22 years of experience, the club has managed to secure 3* and 5* hotel accommodation in Cape Town as well as accommodation in 5* game parks, namely Kuzuko Lodge in the Eastern Cape and Nkomazi in Mpumalanga. 

Suite Success, with over 10 years experience in suite hospitality, has four 30-seater viewing suites in the prestigious North Stand on the Kelvin Grove end at Newlands Cricket Ground.The packages include B&B accommodation, all local transfers, a welcome cocktail party, a cushioned seat for all 5 days of the Test match. Lunch and a complimentary bar will be provided during the match. 

To add to the experience, Designer Tours has secured the services of author, Dr. Dean Allen, who recently launched his book, Empire, War and Cricket in South Africa. The book covers the first ever Test match between England and South Africa which took place at Matjiesfontein. Each delegate on the tour will receive signed copy of the book. Dr. Allen will be the key-note speaker at the Welcome cocktail party at the beginning of the tour.

Cape Town Cricket Club was established in 1857 and is the oldest cricket club in the Western Cape and 2nd oldest in South Africa.  CTCC, as it is fondly known to many club cricket followers, boasts a long list of illustrious past-players including, Garth le Roux, Stephen Jeffries, Kenny McEwan, Peter Kirsten, Stephen Bruce, Robin Jackman, Brian Macmillan and Jonathan Trott.

Dr Dean Allen is currently based in Cape Town as a Lecturer at Cape Peninsula University of Technology and a Research Associate at Stellenbosch University. Having lectured at universities in the UK, Ireland and Australia, he has published widely on the history and politics of sport and society throughout the British Empire, most notably South Africa.
